From this consideration he is inclined to indulge the hope that the book will be acceptable not only to the Philologist, but to readers in general who may have the curiosity to know the origin and signification of their own names. Much labor has been spent upon the Dictionary. It has been prepared by long and careful research and study of the several languages from which the names are derived. In the outlines of the Introductory Essay the author is indebted for much valuable information to the "learned Camden," - "Camden's Remaines concerning Britaine," London, 1614.
