These are stories that portray life far away from academic sincerity at an academic institute. Each story encapsulates a journey of love, internal strife, ambitions, successes and disappointments. They have discussed about sex with drunken Alumni’s, smoked Ganja to mourn the death of Ingmar Bergman, scrapped through lab experiments unprepared and ridiculed, romanced a German exchange student, missed exams doing crazy things the night before, enjoyed their foreign internships, spent night at the Kurla carshed in Mumbai, tried their luck at romance during the college socio cultural festival, got inspired and then messed up their Masters research project and finally participated in the rat race of campus placements. In the midst of all this lies the story of Kabir’s love for Rakshandha, an American citizen and an unusual game which developed between them. Throughout this journey at kgp they interact with many people; some of them who scar and others who heal. Professors, a khadus research assistant, the drama stud who smoked up an year back, the reserved category student with probably the biggest whitest teeth in Santhal tribe of Jharkhand, the juniors who are oriented, the practical hall president, the Bengali canteen owner, the real engineer whose room is the centre of innovation, the shopkeepers outside the campus with their conspiracy theories, the Age of Empire addict who is asked to live with his parents outside the campus, a topper who has to make a choice between McKinsey and IIMA and some more. These people represent figures that can be identified in institutes around the country. The central characters continuously do soul searching through these interactions. The characters are neither geniuses nor fools. They are searching for their inspiration like others in their college life. But they choose not to chart the normal route and give in to avoidable yet enticing pains and pleasures. The brown box and the game are a part of the whole experience but for Kabir’s condition they hold a special significance which is revealed at the end.
