Strahan, Strachan and Sthaxahan are supposed to be one and the same name.* They took their origin from the Parish of Strachan, Kincardine Co., Scotland. Surnames were often incorrectly written in the two last centuries. JAMES STRANAHAN, the founder of the Stranahan family in the United States, was born in the North of Ireland, in 1(599, whence he emigrated to New-England in 1725.f He purchased lands in Scituate, R. I., Oct. 18th and Nov. 29th, 1745. He was a prosperous and intelligent farmer, and died in Plaintield, Conn., Jan. 8th, 1792, aged 93 years. Children. James,2 born in 1735. John,3 born in 1737. William,4 born in 1739. Descendants of JAMES STRAXAHAN, the Settler, in the Line of his son .tajiks. JAMES2 (son of James1) married Martha Corey, settled in Plainfield, Conn., where he purchased a farm in 1768, on which he died Jan. 2d, 1808, aged 73 years. His widow died at same place Sept. 25th, 182(3. He was a soldier of the Revolution, and a thrifty farmer; his remains, and those of his wife and father, lie in a cemetery at South Killingly Meeting- House, in Conn.-- Children.--Jane,5 born Dec. 25th, 1766; John,6born April 25th, 1769; William, 'born Nov. 27th, 1770; James,8 born May 12th, 1772; Fkeelove,2 born Feb. 26th, 1775; Anthony,10 bom July 16th, 1776; Samuel,11 born June 4th, 1778; MARTHA,12born 1780. SAMUEL11 (son of James2) was one of the iirst settlers of Peterboro, Madison County, N.
