Description:The book I have written is about our families’ various experiences over 35 years of running Greenhill Farm Guest House in Holywell, Flintshire, North Wales. My husband and I ran the Dairy Farm and the Guest House with very little outside assistance and reared three daughters who played around our feet as we worked growing up to work with us both on the farm and in the Guest House. Things don’t always run to plan and I’ve had a few complains which are also covered in the book. I soon learnt that as long as I could look swanlike in front of the guests I could paddle like mad behind the scenes to keep the job afloat. I start from a local historical angle which explains why we were in an ideal geographical position to set up the business and my total lack of any experience. Local history in Flintshire includes five castles. We were walking distance from St. Winifred’s Holy Well which helped along with other local tourist attractions within the local area and the nearest beach only five miles away. Although off the beaten track we worked to develop a good reputation in the area. Working with the local Tourism Association ensured that if a guest wanted to stay in Flintshire there would be a member who could accommodate their every need. We used every means at our disposal to advertise our product. I explain how this has developed over the thirty-five years we ran the Guest House. I also give some details of the ‘add on’ features we provided such as rides in John’s Westfield Kit Car and our Corgi puppy dogs. I have written a whole chapter about our resident ghost, not surprising as the original part of the house was built in the late fifteen hundreds.
