This First Part of the Catalogue is issued in order that the subscribers and others interested may see to what extent the English editions have already been secured, and also to show how many are still wanted. The table, pp. 29-36, contains a considerable number of editions which are not named in any previous Bibliography of Shakespeare, and it is probable that many more exist. In American and in Colonial editions the Library is very poor; it is hoped that the issue and circulation of this list may lead to the offer either as gifts or for sale of the sets wanting.
